Pierre Galand: Recent months "essential" for Sahrawi cause

Brussels, May 12, 2016 (SPS) - President of the Conference for Support and Solidarity with Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) Pierre Galand stressed Wednesday in Brussels that the recent months have been "essential" for the Sahrawi cause, regretting that the UN Security Council has not already set a schedule for the self-determination referendum.

Weeklong tribute to Sahrawi political prisoners in Brussels

Brussels, May 10, 2016 (SPS) - A weeklong tribute to the Sahrawi political prisoners and their determination to struggle for right and justice is organized since Monday at the Université Libre de Bruxelles by the Belgian committee of support to the Sahrawi people.
Placed under the theme “Western Sahara, spark of the Arab spring,” this week was inaugurated by a photo exhibition entitled “Gdeim Izik, the camp of dignity-tribute series,” a photo report produced by amateur photographer Anthony Jean.

Algiers, May 8, 2016 (SPS) - The ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algiers Bechraya Hamoudi Bayoune affirmed Saturday that the recent decision of the Security Council obliging the Moroccan occupier to accept the return of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), to continue its mandate, is “positive but insufficient.”

UK government reiterates support to Sahrawi people's right to self-determination

London, May 8, 2016 (SPS) - The UK Parliament has called on the government to support the holding of a referendum in Western Sahara, and the UK government has reiterated its support to the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination, said Saturday a parliamentary source in London.
 
The Scottish National Party MP, Alan Brown sent written questions, last Wednesday, to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the holding of a referendum in Western Sahara and on the recent consultation between London and Rabat on the issue.

Glaimim (southern Morocco), 05 May 2016 (SPS) -The Moroccan occupying forces besiege today the family’s house of the martyr Brahim Sikka to prevent his family, and his companions in the Coordinating of Unemployed Sahrawi, from organizing a press conference to shed light on his arrest and torture, reported source from the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.
This move comes after the family rejected the results of the two medical reports of the Moroccan authorities, calling for international autopsy of a neutral party.SPS

Sidati calls for quick measures to fully implement MINURSO mandate

Brussels, May 05, 2016 (SPS) - Measures must be taken quickly to enable the full implementation of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) and the relaunch of the peace process, pleaded the Sahrawi Deputy Minister for European Affairs Mohamed Sidati.
“MINURSO must regain its full functionality so that the peace process, currently at standstill, can be put back on the rails and so that we can resolutely embark on the implementation of the pertinent resolutions of the United Nations,” Sidati told APS.

UPES stresses need for mechanisms to protect journalists in occupied Sahrawi territories

Chahid El Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps), May 05, 2016 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Journalists and Writers Union (UPES) stressed the need to find mechanisms for the protection of Sahrawi journalists in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
In a statement marking the World Press Freedom Day, observed 3 May every year, the UPES denounced the practices of the Moroccan occupying forces, which continue press freedom abuses in the occupied Sahrawi territories.
