Humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees: EU should fulfil its commitments

Brussels, March 02, 2017 (SPS) - The European Union (EU) should fulfil its commitments regarding humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees, said the Euro-MP Enrique Guerrero Salom.
In a written question to the European Commission, the Euro-MP said that the "unprecedented withdrawal" of EU aid to Sahrawi refugees in 2016 has resulted in "a significant gap in basic humanitarian needs in the five camps that host thousands of Sahrawis."

President of the Republic receives the title Honores Causa Doctor of Mexican Institute of Leaders of Excellence

Chahid El Hafed, March 02, 2017 (SPS) - The President of the Republic , Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO received today the title Honores Causa Doctor of the Mexican Institute of Leaders of Excellence, in consideration of his trajectory as leader Who has sacrificed his whole life in the struggle for the freedom of his people.
 
The title was given by the rector of the institute, Dr. Jorge Fernández Herrera and members of the faculty, Dr. Gabriel Castellanos, Dr. Juan Manuel Estrada and Dr. Alisalem Sidi Zein.
 

Algerian minister of foreign affairs affirms that UN responsibility continues present in the decolonization of the Western Sahara

Geneva, Switzerland, March 02, 2017 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, stated during his speech at the 34th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva that The decolonization of Western Sahara remains the responsibility of the United Nations.
 
The Algerian minister stressed that the responsibility of the UN in the decolonization of Western Sahara requires it to pay more attention to the human rights situation in the territory.
 

Western Sahara: Guerguerat crisis can resurface in the absence of peace process

New York, March 02, 2017 (SPS) - The Guerguerat crisis can resurface at any time in Western Sahara in the absence of a peace process that paves the way towards the final settlement of the Sahrawi issue, said Wednesday Polisario Front representative to UN Ahmed Boukhari.
"We believe that in the absence of a serious peace process as called for in the latest Security Council resolution, the Guerguerat episode can be repeated at any time," Boukhari told APS.

President of the Republic receives a Parliament of El Salvador delegation

Chahid El Hafed, March 01, 2017 (SPS) -  President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Ghali received on Tuesday a delegation of the Salvadorian Parliament as part of the festivities celebrating the 41st anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Republic democratic.
 
The Salvadorian delegation is headed by Guillermo Mata, chairman of the Salvadorian Committee of Friendship with the Saharawi People, together with MPs Juan Carlos Mendoza and Manuel Flores .

Wilaya de Auserd, February 28, 2017 (SPS) -  Participants in the international sporting event, Sahara Marathon 2017, organized a solidarity meeting with the prisoners of Gdeim Izik and all the Saharawi detainees jailed in Morocco.
All the interventions demanded the unconditional release of Sahrawi political prisoners, denouncing the unjust trials to which they were subjected unjustly by the authorities of the Moroccan occupation.

It is both “a message of peace from the Sahrawi people to the world,” and “a battle front for freedom,” said the Sahrawi minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Lahbib.

Western Sahara: Forty-one years of struggle, exile and determination

Paris, February 28, 2017 - The French Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic said Monday in Paris "41 years of struggle, exile and determination (...) it's too long" for the Sahrawi people, who are waiting to exercise their right to self-determination.
 
"Forty-one years of struggle, exile and determination to exercise their (Sahrawi people) right to self-determination and independence, it's too long," said the Association on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the SADR Proclamation.

Smara (Refugees Camps), Feb 27, 2017 (SPS) - Sahrawi president and Polisario Front General Secretary Brahim Ghali said that the announcement of Morocco to withdraw its troops from Western Sahara’s Al Guergarat region was a maneuver and a diversion.
He added that the Moroccan occupier should assume the impacts of its colonial practices that may compromise the ceasefire.

Smara, 27 Feb 2017 (SPS) The festivities celebrating the 41st anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) began on Monday in Smara with wide international participation.
These festivities began with the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem "Ana Errafik el Moustahel", first performed in Bir Lahlou after the SADR proclamation on February 27, 1976, following the departure of the last Spanish soldier from the Saharawi territories.

It’s necessary that the U.S. work to end the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara, it added.

Smara (refugee camps)-Speaker of the Sahrawi Parliament Khatri Addouh stressed Sunday "the recognition of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination contributes to strengthening peace, security, coexistence and integration in the region."
"The recognition of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination will lay the foundations of peace, security, coexistence and integration in the region," said Addouh in a meeting with a US Congressional delegation led by James Inhofe to the Sahrawi refugee camps in Smara.

Dlamini-Zuma expressed “her sincere and warm congratulations” to the Sahrawi government and people, adding her wishes for “peace, prosperity and progress.”
