Preparatory committee for UESARIO congress holds its first meeting

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), July 4, 2014 (SPS) - The preparatory committee for the 2nd congress of the Saharawi Students Union (UESARIO) held Thursday at the prime ministry headquarters its first meeting.


Chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the meeting was attended by Mr. Salem Lebsir, head of the POLISARIO National Secretariat’s Political Organization, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, prime minister, Ahmed Lehbib, secretary general of UESARIO, as well as members of the government and national secretariat.

Socialist International to conduct exploratory visit to Western Sahara

Mexico City, July 3, 2014 (SPS) - The Socialist International Women has agreed to organize an exploratory visit to Western Sahara, promising, at the conclusion of its Council’s meeting held in Mexico City, to set the date of the visit in the near future, said a source close to the Saharawi delegation.
 

The decision made after a request by the Saharawi delegation, inviting SI to visit the territory of Western Sahara, in the aim to assess at first hand the reality of the Saharawi people.
 

Polisario Front condemns Rabat’s apathy towards AU and UN resolutions (official)

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), July 2, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi government and Polisario Front have condemned Morocco’s impassiveness vis-à-vis the resolutions of the African Union and United Nations, drawing international community that Rabat practices is similar to those of Apartheid regime in South Africa.
 

4 Danish municipalities stop purchase of Western Sahara salt, says WSRW

Copenhagen, July 2, 2014 (SPS) - Four Danish municipalities, Gladsaxe, Herlev, Rudersdal and Gentofte, have decided not to use the road salt imported from occupied Western Sahara by Danish company Dansk Vejsalt A/S, according to Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW).


During the last year the Danish NGO, Afrika Kontakt has several times, and without luck, tried to get Dansk Vejsalt to stop the import of this salt.

ANC asks Socialist International to contribute in supporting Saharawi cause

Mexico City, July 2, 2014 (SPS) - Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) Mr. Gwede Mantashe has asked the Socialist International Women to contribute in supporting the Saharawi cause, voicing his party’s support.


In an intervention on Tuesday before the Council meeting of the Socialist International, convened in Mexico City, Mr. Mantashe called on SI to make more efforts in order to contribute to the achievement of peace in Western Sahara and in other places of the world.

SADR initiative welcomed by Maputo Conference on Mine Ban

Geneva, July 2, 2014 (SPS) - Maputo Conference on Mine Ban has welcomed SADR initiative to present voluntary reports on the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Antipersonnel Mines and on their Destruction, said Monday a statement issued by Polisario Front’s office in Geneva.
 

Saharawi delegation attends meeting of Socialist International Women in Mexico

Mexico, July 1, 2014 (SPS) - A delegation of the Polisario Front takes part at a meeting of the Council of the Socialist International Women, which began Monday in Mexico, in the presence of delegations representing 60 countries.
 

The Saharawi delegation consisted of Ms. Fatima Al-Mahdi, secretary general of the Saharawi Women Union, and Ahmed Moulay Ali, charge d'affaires of SADR Embassy in Mexico.
