PCP Central Committee reaffirms solidarity with Saharawi people

Seixal (Portugal), Sept 8, 2013 (SPS) - Member of the Political Commission of the Central Committee of Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) Mr. Carlos Gonçalves has reaffirmed solidarity and commitment to the just cause of the Saharawi people and to defend their legitimate rights before Portuguese and international institutions, during a meeting with the Saharawi delegation attending the 37th PCP Festival, the main political-cultural event in the country, reported Polisario representation in Portugal.

PM oversees meeting of youth file’s coordination and follow-up mechanism

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 8, 2013 (SPS) - Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar oversaw Saturday a meeting of the coordination and follow-up mechanism for the youth file, as part of the government’s periodic assessment and follow-up to this file.


The meeting examined the practical aspects of Youth Employment Programme through micro credits, whose first part will be delivered to young graduates of professional training centers and institutes.

Saharawi political prisoner Omar Daoudi launches open hunger strike

Ait Melloul (Morocco), Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner Omar Daoudi launched yesterday, Friday, an open hunger strike in the Moroccan Ait Melloul’s local prison, according to a human rights source.


Family of the detainee reported that her son entered into this hunger strike as a protest to the degrading ill-treatment practices he suffers inside the prison, the same source said.

Saharawi political prisoner Ajwad Farrah continues his hunger strike

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner Ajwad Farraha continues, for the eighth consecutive day, his open hunger strike in the Moroccan Lekhal’s prison in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, said a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora.


The state of health of the Saharawi detainee Ajwad Farrah, 29 years, is now miserable after he stopped water and sugar intake, said the source.

Belgian Committee of Support to Saharawi People condemns EU-Morocco fishing pact

Brussels, Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - The Committee of Support to the Saharawi People in Belgium has condemned the EU-Morocco fishing agreement, signed at the end of last July, which includes Western Sahara’s territorial waters, describing it as “a blatant breach” to international law and legitimacy, according to a statement of POLISARIO Office in Brussels.

FEMM Committee condemns Moroccan human rights abuses against Saharawi women

Brussels, Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - The European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, known as FEMM Committee, has denounced the gross abuses of human rights perpetrated by Moroccan occupation forces against Saharawi women in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, informed Saharawi diplomatic sources.


In its report on women’s rights in the Sahel region and Western Sahara, ratified Wednesday, FEMM Committee highlighted “the important role played by Saharawi women within the Saharawi society.”

Southern African Liaison Office hosts seminar on Western Sahara

Pretoria, Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - In collaboration with SADR embassy, the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO) organized Thursday a seminar on Western Sahara under the theme: “for achieving a continental and international consensus to support Saharawi cause”.


The seminar was presided over by Mr. Ebrahim Ebrahim, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa.

Western Sahara conflict: PACE Rapporteure in Algeria early October

Paris, Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - Rapporteure of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Liliane Maury-Pasquier will head, by early October to Algeria for an information visit to help her to “complete” a report on the European Parliamentary contribution to the settlement of Western Sahara conflict, it was announced during a meeting on the matter in Paris.

WSEW denounces Total SA “irresponsible comeback” in occupied Western Sahara

Brussels, Sept 2, 2013 (SPS) - Western Sahara Resource Watch launched today, Monday, a report denouncing the “irresponsible comeback” of the French oil company Total’ in occupied Western Sahara, adding that this shows a “complete disregard of basic principles of corporate social responsibility.”


In a report published Monday, WSRW underlined that Total SA Company “carries out exploration in the territory despite the UN legal office stating it would be in violation of international law.”
