Pretoria, Sept 7, 2013 (SPS) - In collaboration with SADR embassy, the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO) organized Thursday a seminar on Western Sahara under the theme: “for achieving a continental and international consensus to support Saharawi cause”.
The seminar was presided over by Mr. Ebrahim Ebrahim, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa.
Mr. Ebrahim reaffirmed his country’s strong and firm position of support to the Saharawi cause, noting that such position “goes back to decades of common struggle for the liberation of Africa under the leadership of the Polisario Front and African National Congress (ANC).”
Addressing the seminar, Saharawi Ambassador in South Africa Mr. Salha Al-Abd informed the attendees about latest developments in Western Sahara, notably the situation of human rights in the occupied territories.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to South Africa and SA's civil society organizations.
Several other interventions emphasized the need to establish an effective solidarity platform working to push international community to assume responsibility in exerting pressure on Morocco, as an occupier power, to comply with the international legitimacy, as to work for the protection of human rights in the occupied of Western Sahara and release of all the Saharawi political prisoners.
Mr. Al-Ouali Mousa, Advisor to SADR embassy, was also present at the seminar.
