Addis Ababa, 22 March 2021 (SPS) - Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salam Ould Salek, said Saturday that the decision of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) on the conflict in Western Sahara had "torpedoed the Moroccan strategy and destroyed its ambitions to defeat the UN process of decolonization of Western Sahara."
In a statement to the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS) in reaction to the rejection by Morocco, through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, of the decision of the PSC in favor of the right of the Sahrawi people, Ould Salek recalled that during the 14th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government to "silence the arms", "the AU decided to assume its responsibilities, as a guarantee of peace and stability in the Sahara.
Welcoming this resumption of initiative "after three decades of obstruction and delay by Morocco in collusion with powers, which are behind the invasion and aggression of the Sahrawi people, and which continue to prevent the completion of its sovereignty over all its territory," he said that the decision of the PSC "comes to torpedo the strategy and destroy the ambition of the colonizer to defeat the decolonization process.
"The Moroccan occupier has become accustomed to indulging in a passive UN mission to obstruct the UN-AU process of decolonization of Western Sahara because it is confident in the support of known parties, which support it in the continuation of its occupation and protects it in its impunity," said the Sahrawi head of diplomacy.
