Algiers, 16 January 2023 (SPS) -The Speaker of the Algerian Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, reaffirmed the "constant and unconditional" position of Algeria in favor of the cause of the Sahrawi people and its right to self-determination and independence, in accordance with international legality and United Nations (UN) resolutions, said the council Saturday in a statement.
In a letter addressed to the 16th Congress of the Polisario Front held in Dakhla in the Sahrawi refugee camps, read on his behalf by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and the Algerian community abroad of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Omar Dadi Adoun, Goudjil stressed "the constant and unconditional position of Algeria in favor of the cause of the Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination and independence on its land and the establishment of its sovereign state, in accordance with international legality and UN resolutions," said the same source.
"This position has been emphasized on many occasions by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, based on the principles of the foreign policy of our country, drawn from the November reference, rejecting all forms of colonization and supporting all liberation movements around the world," he stressed.
Goudjil welcomed "the achievements and victories of the Polisario Front, the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, as well as its triumphs at the political, legal and military levels in the face of intransigence and maneuvers of the occupier who has destabilized the region with its colonial lusts.”
Hailing the resistance of the Polisario Front against misinformation and its commitment to the claims of the Sahrawi people, while exposing the maneuvers of the Moroccan occupier to impose its plans to recycle a new form of occupation, Goudjil recalled "the legitimacy of the choices made by peoples in their wars of liberation like Algeria.”
Goudjil also welcomed the growing international solidarity with the Sahrawi cause, stressing the need "to intensify efforts and mobilize more support for the decolonization of Africa and the recovery of the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.”
In addition, the Sahrawi President and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali received a delegation of the Council of the Nation chaired by Omar Dadi Adoun who conveyed "greetings from Goudjil to President Ghali and the Sahrawi people, wishing success to the 16th Congress of the Polisario Front so that the Sahrawi people can enjoy its right to self-determination and independence," said the source.
