Opening of Saharawi culture and folk arts festival

Auserd, (Refugee Camps), December 10, 2017 (SPS) - The 18th edition of the festival of Saharawi culture and folk arts opened Saturday in Auserd (Saharawi refugee camps) with the objective of the consecration of the identity of the Saharawi people, the promotion of their culture and the reaffirmation of the will to continue the struggle for independence.
Presiding over the opening ceremony, Wali of Auserd, Mariem Salek Hmada, welcomed the victories achieved by the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) during the 5th AU-EU summit, despite the obstacles, saying that the Saharawi people, with all their components, remains committed to its just struggle for independence and their right to self-determination.
The Saharawi cultural festival is an opportunity to make known the struggle of the Saharawis and their suffering and tell their story and their struggle for independence, while devoting their identity far from any denaturing campaign, she added.
This festival, which has been held for 17 years, aims to anchor the identity of the Saharawi people and preserve the Sahrawi heritage through the organization of exhibitions of paintings devoting Saharawi traditions, the installation of tents and the organization of artistic shows, to prove to the whole world that the Saharawi people, who are deprived of their freedom, still resist and remain attached to their national identity.
