Washington, October 7, 2021 (SPS)- The United States Welcomes the Appointment of Staffan de Mistura as the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, according to what the Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken mentioned in a statement.
He said “The United States warmly welcomes the appointment of Staffan de Mistura as the new UN Personal Envoy of the Secretary General for Western Sahara. Personal Envoy de Mistura brings considerable expertise – addressing challenges in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria – to this important position and we will actively support his efforts to promote a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Western Sahara and the region”.
Antony J. Blinken added in his statement “We strongly support Personal Envoy de Mistura’s leadership in resuming the UN-led political process to advance a durable and dignified resolution to the conflict in Western Sahara”.
