Berlin, 3 December 2022 (SPS) - The president of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS), Saïd Ayachi, hqs denounced in Berlin the silence of the international community in the face of the continuation of Moroccan repression and violations of human rights in the occupied Saharawi territories.
"For 47 years, Morocco has illegally occupied the territory of Western Sahara, and for 47 years Morocco has been repressing the Saharawis at home," said Ayachi in his speech at the 46th Conference of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Saharawi People (EUCOCO), opened Friday evening in the German capital.
"Morocco arrests, imprisons and tortures Sahrawis at home. Morocco plunders the Sahrawi wealth. All this under the gaze and silence of the international community, without any call to order, without any condemnation, without any sanction of the Moroccan occupier," he denounced.
"Morocco is now waging an atrocious war against the Sahrawis in Western Sahara," said the president of CNASPS.
He added in the same context: "The United Nations asked the Polisario Front to stop the military struggle that it was undoubtedly winning on the ground. The Sahrawis have agreed to do so against the commitment of the United Nations to organize a referendum on self-determination, to which the Sahrawis are, in any case, entitled under international law and the UN Charter on decolonization.
Mr. Ayachi called on this occasion the UN to fulfill "without delay, the commitments it made with the Saharawis in September 1991", wondering "how long will the Saharawis wait for the UN to organize a referendum of self-determination to which they are fully entitled?" and "how long should we watch helplessly the daily and savage violations of human rights in the territories occupied by Morocco, which acts with total impunity?".
"How long will the international community remain silent in the face of Morocco's obstacles and maneuvers to prevent the Personal Envoys of the UN Secretary-General from doing his job? And when are we going to put an end to the shameless plundering of Saharawi natural wealth by the Moroccan occupier?" he wondered.
