Algiers, 5 December 2021 (SPS) - The Algerian Feminist Journal (JFA) has expressed its "deep indignation" at the inhumane assaults, rapes and violence against Sahrawi human rights activist Sultana Khaya Sid Ibrahim, a victim of sexual assaults with her sisters and mother.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the JFA affirmed that "the crimes against the activist for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination are unforgivable", calling on "all local and international organisations and institutions to take action and demand the accompaniment of the activist and her family in order to prosecute the attackers".
Condemning "strongly" the violations suffered by Sultana Khaya, the Journal expressed its unconditional solidarity with the victims.
The JFA noted the need for all States to respect their commitments in terms of respect for human rights and individual and collective freedoms, while upholding and respecting the right of peoples to self-determination.
"Rape as a weapon of oppression and war is one of the oldest colonial practices to be combated through all possible mechanisms," wrote the JFA. (SPS)
