Tifariti (liberated territories), 25 December 2019 (SPS) - The 15th Congress of the Polisario Front wrapped up Tuesday evening after a six-day work focusing mainly on the examination of the best options seeking to enable the Sahrawi people regain their legitimate right to independence in the face of the continuing impasse in the peace process marked by the persistent Moroccan stubbornness.
It is expected that the final declaration of the congress proceedings will constitute a sheet that will reflect the political orientation of the Front for the next period.
The congress participants, whose number exceeds 2400 delegates, examined during the previous days the best options to be followed for the continuation of the liberating struggle of the Saharawi people.
The newly elected political leadership, which has seen the reappointment of Brahim Ghali as Secretary General of the Front for the next four years and the election of the members of the National Secretariat of the Front, will ensure the definition of the detailed procedure for the implementation of the recommendations of the congress participants.
At the beginning of the congress, the Saharawi President Brahim Ghali said that the Front "will never accept further prevarication or prolongation of the Moroccan occupation", stressing that "the Saharawi people are waging a war that will end only with the liberation of our homeland through the use of all available means within the framework of legality."
Ghali reaffirmed that "the African Union, which is a major partner in the AU-UN peace process, we call on it to make more efforts and take the necessary measures to ensure that the Kingdom of Morocco respects its obligations under the AU Charter, and to withdraw, without restriction or condition, from the part it occupies of our country."
Like the 14 previous Polisario Congresses, Ghali said that the front hopes that this meeting will be "a national space" able to concretize the unity and unanimity around our national project and to work to frame our discussions and direct them towards an essential national objective by focusing on the constants of Polisario and the supreme interest of the Sahrawi people.
