New York, Oct 17, 2019 (SPS) - Cuba reaffirmed at the UN, its commitment to defend the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination based on respect for the principles and purposes of the UN Charter , International Law and the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly.
"We reiterate support for the efforts of the Secretary General to reach a mutually acceptable political solution between the parties, which provides for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara," said Cuban Ambassador Humberto Rivero.
In the same context, Cuba reiterated its historical commitment to the eradication of colonialism and recalled that as long as there are only one people under that condition, the work of the multilateral agency will be unfinished.
“When there is barely a year left before the Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism ends and despite the deadlines set by the United Nations, the scourge of colonialism continues to be present in the world,” added the Cuban ambassador. SPS
