Disregard for Morocco's involvement in bribery scandal puts European institutions at stake

Submitted on

Shaheed Al Hafed, 19 December 2022 (SPS) -  The Sahrawi National Commission for Human Rights denounced the shameful involvement of members of the European Parliament in the bribery scandal, stressing that the European Union and its various bodies are fully aware of the dangers of ignoring the usual Moroccan blackmail and that tolerating it will put the credibility of the European body's institutions, including the judicial and legislative, at stake.
The Sahrawi Commission said in a statement on Sunday that it is following with "deep concern" the repercussions of the bribery scandal involving several members of the European Parliament currently being pursued by the European judiciary, who, according to preliminary information, were "defending Morocco's thesis contrary to international legitimacy related to the decolonization of Western Sahara, and exerted all forms of pressure and bribery to vote on resolutions supporting the illegal exploitation of Western Sahara's natural resources by the European Union and the occupying state - the Kingdom of Morocco."
This comes, says the Commission's statement, in the context of "continuous fraud operations to circumvent international law and decisions of the European Court of Justice regarding Sahrawi resources, and also in flagrant violation of the fundamental principles applicable to the conduct of EU institutions."
Based on the above, the Sahrawi Commission condemned "this shameful involvement of the members of the European Parliament implicated in the bribery scandal", denouncing the European Union's tolerant position towards Morocco under several titles, including "considering it a strategic partner, leading to the open involvement in the plundering of the wealth of Western Sahara, continuing to occupy parts of it and committing all types of violations without any kind of condemnation by the European Union and its institutions. This "encouraged Morocco to continue violating international laws and disregarding international legitimacy."
