Algiers, 29 November 2021 (SPS) - The head of the National Federation of Algerian Diaspora, Tarek Benbouza, announced the creation of the International Committee for the Support of Sahrawi People's Right to Self-determination, with a view to gaining international support for this just cause and allowing Western Sahara people to exert their inalienable right to self-determination, in line with the international legality.
Benbouza told APS that the founding congress of the International Committee for the Support of Sahrawi People's Right to Self-determination was held by video conference on Friday.
The international committee elected Tarek Benbouza as head of the group made up of 32 Algerian organizations established in Europe, as well as 16 Sahrawi, three Tunisian and 13 national organizations, including the National Council of Higher Education Teachers, and a number of lawyers and civil society actors.
The creation of the committee, according to its chairman, is part of the international efforts to back the cause of Western Sahara and its people, who claim their unalienable right to self-determination in accordance with international legality.
Benbouza stressed that the United Nations lists Western Sahara as a non-self-governing territory.
