Algiers expects from Washington to be "impartial" to advance causes of peace

Algiers, 7 January 2021 (SPS) - Algeria expects from the United States to be "impartial," as required by the current challenges, in order to advance the causes of peace on the regional and international levels, Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said in an audience he granted Thursday, in Algiers, to the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker.
During the audience, "Boukadoum stressed the nature of the role expected of the United States to advance the causes of peace at the regional and international levels, that is the impartiality demanded by the current challenges," the ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a release.
The minister's statement was made during an exchange of views on "regional and international issues of common interest, including Western Sahara, Mali, Libya, the situation in the Sahel region and the Middle East."
On the international level, the year 2020 was marked by outgoing US President Donald Trump's actions to convince Arab countries to normalize ties with the Zionist entity.
On December 10, Trump said that he had officially recognized Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara, in exchange for the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel.
The decision has been widely criticized at the international level, but also in the United States, and even within the party of the outgoing president. (SPS)
