Submitted on

New York (United Nations), April 2018 (SPS) – The United States on Tuesday asked for the postponement of a draft resolution prolonging Minurso mandate in Western Sahara following important divergences about its content, while the negotiations within the Security Council on a new version continue.
On Tuesday, the US mission to the United Nations justified its request for postponement by the need to grant the United States more time to examine all the proposals that emerged from the Security Council meeting on Monday.
The United States delegation to the United Nations is planned to meet separately with some members of the Security Council to ensure that the various positions expressed on this project have been fully understood.
The talks stumbled Tuesday on a second version of the draft resolution. The United States asked to postpone in the absence of consensus. Points of divergence: El Guergarat and many other elements contained in this text that are related to the UN process in Western Sahara, according to this second version seen by APS.
The mission is set to submit on Wednesday a third version, taking into account the observations made by the various parties.SPS
