Polisario Front: European Commission's report on wealth of Sahrawi people is "unacceptable"

Brussels, 9 January 2022 (SPS) - The Polisario Front rejected on Saturday the report of the European Commission on "an alleged benefit" that the Sahrawi people would have drawn from its wealth, reaffirming that the content of the report, which was only the result of the crimes of the Moroccan occupier, was "unacceptable".
The representative of the Polisario Front in Europe and the European Union (EU), Oubi Boushraya Bashir affirmed in a statement that the content of the new European report of the European Commission was "inadmissible", adding that "despite the suffering of the Sahrawi people inflicted by the Moroccan occupier for 40 years, the European Commission welcomes what it calls the positive points of the regime that treats them brutally.
Mr. Oubi Boushraya noted that the latest report "testifies to the Commission's contempt for the verdicts of justice".
"While the Court of the European Union (EU) had annulled, on September 29, 2021, the fisheries and agriculture agreements between Morocco and the EU, the European Commission published a new report on December 22, 2021 to enhance the plundering of the natural resources of Western Sahara by the Moroccan colonizer," he stressed.
The Sahrawi diplomat stressed the importance of complying with international law, pointing out that "the European Court of Justice (CJEU) has set a clear condition for the consent of the Sahrawi people to investment in its wealth, however, the refusal of the European Commission to implement the decisions of the CJEU raises serious concerns, as respect for international law is one of the constituent values of the EU that it is committed to strengthening on the international scene.
The diplomat deplored "the bias of the European Commission in favor of Morocco, which continues to ignore the decisions of the Courts of Justice, starting with the judgment of the European Court of Justice in 1975.
"These prevarications do not stop there," said Bouchraya, noting that "the European Commission has mentioned the decisions of the CJEU at the bottom of the page as if they were secondary data.
The CJEU ruling of 21 December 2016 states that no agreement can be applied to Western Sahara without the free, prior consent of the Sahrawi people.
With this report, "the commission solemnly defies the rulings of the CJEU, while its main mission is to ensure their application," concluded the Sahrawi official.
