New York (United Nations) 12 October 2022 (SPS)- the Representative of Cuba to the UN stated in his country’s statement before the UN 4th Committee last October 10 that the people of Western Sahara can count on Cuba’s constant support to gain freedom.
“Cuba defends the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination based on the respect of the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, International Law and the relevant UN resolutions,” he said.
He recalled the audience that “the Saharawi people require support from the international community and can always count on the solidarity of the people of Cuba.”
Cuba further stressed that it “does not do not favor unilateral decisions that ignore the interests or rights of the Saharawi people.”
It rather advocates “a mutually acceptable political solution between the parties, which provides for the exercise of self-determination by the people of Western Sahara in accordance with United Nations resolution 1514 (XV) on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.” (SPS)
