France bias delays, complicates MINURSO’s task

Paris, 30 November 2020 (SPS) - Sahrawi representative of the Polisario Front to Paris Mohamed Sidati denounced Saturday the policy and bias of France for Morocco which delays and complicates the task of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
“France’s bias with Morocco delays and complicates UN’s task in Western Sahara, impeding the reaching of a fair solution through a self-determination referendum,” said Sidati in a statement to APS, after a major rally held Saturday, in Paris, to denounce the Moroccan aggression against Sahrawi civilians in El Guerguerat and call on UN to take action to oblige Morocco to comply with the international law.
He noted that “France will win by adopting a more neutral and balanced position on the issue of Western Sahara instead of its bias,” calling it to “stop having a partisan attitude which is against the international law and a fair and peaceful solution.”
“A change in the French policy will only help and speed up a fair solution,” affirmed Sidati, pointing out that France must adopt a “position which reinforces the international resolutions and encourages the implementation of the international law as well as stop being a part of the issue to help Morocco to return to the international legality and convince it to respect the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination.”
In this respect, Sidati called on the French Government to “stop having a partisan attitude which will only perpetuates injustice”, underlining that time has come for France to “contribute to a fair and peaceful solution in Western Sahara for the peace, security and stability of the entire region of the Maghreb.” (SPS)
