Geneva (Switzerland), Sept 13, 2017 (SPS) - A group of ambassadors and international law experts stressed Wednesday the importance of implementing the decisions of the UN General Assembly, especially those relating to Western Sahara people's right to self-determination and sovereignty over their own natural resources, media reported.
The conference, entitled "The Question of Western Sahara, the Last Colony in Africa," was held Wednesday on the sidelines of the 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The speakers discussed several topics, mainly the legal status of Western Sahara and Morocco's presence as a "foreign military occupation force" in the territory.
Morocco, from a legal point of view, is "ineligible to manage the natural resource of Western Sahara people without the approval of their unique, legitimate representative, the Frente POLISARIO."
The ambassadors, experts and representatives of diplomatic missions at the Council of human rights, NGOs and parties interested in Western Sahara issue attending the conference called for "carrying on supporting the Saharawi people and their just fight for the recovery of their despoiled rights, particularly the right to liberty and independence."
The 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which opened Monday in Geneva, with the participation of the Saharawi delegation, in the presence of civil society players from the Saharawi refugee camps, residents of the occupied territories and the diaspora, in addition to Frente POLISARIO's permanent mission at the UN council and Switzerland.
