Windhoek (Namibia) 08 December 2020 (SPS)- The Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, Hon. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, called for ridding Africa from the vestiges of colonialism, in his country’s speech befoe the AU 14th Extraordinary Summit on Silencing the Guns held last Sunday.
“Your Excellency, we believe that ridding the continent from vestiges of colonialism, the Saharawis for instance should be accorded their inalienable right to self-determination and national independence,” he stated.
He indicated that “the quest for peace and security on our continent undoubtedly remains a pressing matter. Although 99% of the African continent has achieved and enjoy political independence, the challenge of maintaining peace and security throughout Africa continues.”
He further stressed that it is African leaders’ “moral obligation and political responsibility to find durable solutions to conflicts and wars in order to deliver our set vision of attaining prosperity and sustainable development for all our citizens.”
He also expressed the support of his country to the recommendations proposed by Lesotho’s Prime Minister that calls for AU Peace and Security Council to engage both parties to the conflict and members of the AU, Morocco and the Saharawi Republic, in order to reach a solution that enables the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination in line with the relevant AU-UN decisions and resolutions and the objectives and principles of the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
