New York, April 16, 2016 (SPS) - On April 18, 2016, Cornell Law School’s International Human Rights Clinic (New York, USA) will spotlight the fight for self-determination in Western Sahara—often referred to as Africa’s last colony, on Monday, April 18, 2016, at 1:25 – 2:25 Eastern Standard Time, at Cornell Law School, Myron Taylor Hall, Room 277, the organizers have indicated in a statement.
“The first of its kind at Cornell University, this event aims to build awareness in the university community and beyond on the struggles Western Sahara faces today. Discussion will highlight the delicate diplomatic issues surrounding Western Sahara’s quest for self-determination and Morocco’s efforts to prevent its realization. The event will also shed light on efforts by the clinic to document human rights violations committed by the Kingdom of Morocco in Western Sahara.”
“The event’s guest speaker, Professor Jacob Mundy, is a distinguished academic from Colgate University and one of the leading scholars on Western Sahara. Along with Professor Mundy, students in the International Human Rights Clinic will provide an overview of their work before the United Nations treaty bodies, including the Committee on Human Rights and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.”
