Shahid al-Hafed, April 19, 2023 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, affirmed that the Sahrawi people cannot accept that a peace process led by the United Nations turns into an open attempt to legitimize an illegal military occupation.
President Brahim Ghali, stressed in his speech during his supervision of the opening session of the new term of the National Council, that the Saharawi people cannot accept that a peace process led by the United Nations will turn into a relentless and open attempt to legitimize an illegitimate military occupation, by blatantly turning a blind eye to the intransigence of the Moroccan occupying state and its colonial practices and violations of human rights and its looting of the Sahrawi natural resources, leading to the suspicious silence in front of its flagrant violation of the cease-fire agreement and its occupation of new parts of the territory of the Sahrawi Republic.
The President of the Republic added that the UN Security Council, unfortunately, still has not properly appreciated the fact that the Sahrawi people, who have made more sacrifices and concessions than others, have never stopped constructive cooperation to resolve the Moroccan-Sahrawi conflict, within a clear framework defined by the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations, especially the declaration of granting independence to the colonial peoples and countries, through decolonization and self-determination.
He called again on the UN Security Council to expedite the implementation of the UN-African settlement plan of 1991, as the only framework for a peaceful solution that was signed by the two parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco, and approved by the UN Security Council.
In the same context, the President of the Republic stressed the need for the African Union to move urgently to put an end to the flagrant violation of its constitutive law by a member state of the continental organization, the Kingdom of Morocco, through its illegal occupation of parts of the territory of another member state, the Sahrawi Republic.
President Brahim Ghali reminded the European Union of the obligation to adhere to international law, international humanitarian law and European law, especially the decisions of the European Court of Justice to refrain from signing any agreement with the occupying Moroccan state that affects the lands, airspace or territorial waters of Western Sahara, considering it (Western Sahara) and the Kingdom of Morocco as two separate and distinct countries.
