Algeria - Portugal: complete convergence of views on Western Sahara issue

Lisbon (Portugal), May 24, 2023 (SPS) - The President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed, on Tuesday from Lisbon, the complete convergence of views between Algeria and Portugal on all regional and international issues.
In a joint press statement with his Portuguese counterpart, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President Tebboune said that the talks he held with the latter were "fruitful, frank and sincere, reflecting the depth of relations between the two countries" and highlighting "complete convergence of views on all regional and international issues such as the situation In Libya, Mali, the Sahel, Western Sahara, the Palestinian territories, and what is happening between friendly Ukraine and Russia.
In this regard, President Tebboune said, "Algeria aspires, like Portugal, to peace between Russia and Ukraine, and to resolving the issue of Western Sahara in accordance with United Nations regulations and Security Council resolutions."
He also added "We affirmed our absolute support for the Palestinian cause, and Algeria's position on that is clear, as it defends the two-state solution and the establishment of the State of Palestine within the borders of June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital."
