Brussel, Oct 22, 2011 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has urgently called on the EU to intervene in order to put an end to the acts of repression and killing in Western Sahara.

“We reaffirm our urgent and official call on the European Union to immediately intervene for putting an end to the acts of repression and killing,” said Mr. Mohamed Sidati, minister delegate in charge of Europe, in a letter addressed Thursday to the EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Catherine Ashton.

“It is regrettable to note that while the UN has reaffirmed, in a new resolution, the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, the EU remains silent before the gross violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan state in Western Sahara,” The Saharawi minister indicated.

He recalled that EU, which made the Moroccan repressive regime as a partner through granted it an advanced position, “has the sufficient means to influence on the Moroccan policy of occupation and repression in Western Sahara,” considering in this regard that the EU cannot and should not be incurious on the tragic events occurred in Western Sahara.

He pointed out to the brutal repression perpetuated by the Moroccan occupation forces against an attempt to peacefully gather on Oct 9, 2011 in occupied El Aaiun marking the occasion of Gdeim Izik establishment, condemning the blind violence perpetrated by the Moroccan forces.

Mr. Mohamed Sidati underlined that the Moroccan authorities has launched a campaign of arrest and chase the demonstrators throughout the Saharawi soil, mentioning in this regard the attack on the Saharawi human rights activist, Sultana Jaya.

He finally accused the Moroccan authorities to work without punishment and to practice the state terrorism, regretting on the siege imposed on El Aaiun which “resulted in terror and fear among the Saharawis,” he said. (SPS)
