SADR commemorates first anniversary of dismantling camp of Gdeim Isik

Smara (Refugee Camps) November 10, 2011 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic (SADR) commemorated Wednesday in the Wilaya of  Smara, Sahrawi refugee camps, the first anniversary of the dismantlement  of the Sahrawi protest camp of Gdeim Isik by the Moroccan troops of occupation, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, and members of the government and parliament.

 

In his speech during the commemorative activities of the first anniversary of the massacre committed by Morocco against the protest camp, the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, confirmed that “the camp of Gdeim Isik was a peaceful political, economic and social protest demonstration, unique in the world.”

 

The President of the Republic  underlined that "this event, which we commemorate today, the first anniversary of the epic of Gdeim Isik, is as important as the other historical epics and beacons in the history of the struggle of the Saharawi people, such as the uprising in Zemla on June 17, 1970, establishment of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro May 10, 1973 and launch of  the armed struggle  May 20, 1973, declaration of National Unity October 12, 1975 and proclamation of  Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic February 27, 1976."

 

He asserted that after all the heroic epics that the Saharawi people has been waging all these years "there is no room for any solution to the conflict in Western Sahara that does not meet the legitimate legal requirement of all Sahrawis, namely the national independence.

 

The President of the Republic reiterated solidarity with the victims of the camp of Gdeim Izik and their families, emphasizing that the efforts will be continued and intensified until they are freed and returned to their families and loved ones as soon as possible.

 

He also expressed solidarity of the Saharawi people with the victims and their families of the terrorist attacks in the Sahrawi refugee camps October 22, which led to the abduction of the three European aid workers.

 

Several activities were held in Smara to commemorate one year after the storming by the Moroccan army of more than 8000 tents of displaced Sahrawis in the area of Gdeim  Isik, east of the occupied city of El Aaiun, where thousands of Sahrawis were abducted and tortured because they refused to return to their homes and decided to stay in the camp until their  demands to live in freedom and dignity be met. 

 

The Commemorative activities were inaugurated by the Governor of the Wilaya of Smara, Hamma Elbunea, and attended by a large number of citizens came from different Wilayas, it should be recalled. (SPS)
