Sahrawi government calls on UN to intervene immediately to release Saharawi political prisoners

Shaheed El hafed( Refugee Camps), Jan 11, 2012 (SPS)- SADR government has called on United Nations to assume full responsibility in protecting Saharawi defenseless civilians in occupied territories and guarantee their social, economic rights from the gross human rights violations perpetrated by Moroccan regime.

In Statement released Tuesday, Ministry of Information urged UN to include monitoring and protection of human rights as priority within MINORSO mandate.

Ministry of Information pointed out that on Jan 13 Moroccan authorities will subject 23 Sahrawi political detainees to military court in relevant to the murderous assault of Moroccan forces against the protest camp of Gdeim Izik.

It also demanded UN to put pressure on Morocco to rescind its policy in subjecting Saharawi civilians to military courts, "which is a violation to international low".

The statement also requested  "unconditional and immediate" release to all Saharawi political detainees in Moroccan jails as well unveiling the fate of Sahrawi disappearances.

Finally, Ministry of Information condemned Moroccan occupation policy based on harassment and deformation of political and economic rights of Saharawi civilians in occupied territories. (SPS)
