Guatemala, Jan 15, 2012 (SPS) - A new government for 2012-2016 took office Saturday in Guatemala as Alvaro Colom hands over the ceremonial sash to be received later by Otto Perez Molina.
Some 5,000 people are expected to gather at the Domo Polideportivo (main stadium) in the capital, including representatives and guests of at least 98 countries and international organization accredited here.
Friday night, Colom offered a reception to visiting delegations at National Culture Palace, where he appreciated the international community's support to his performance.
Activities started early Saturday with a solemn session at the Congress of the Republic, where new members of Parliament and those who were re-elected were take their posts for the next four years.
