Elections of Saharawi Parliament: preparatory conferences started today in refugee camps and liberated territories

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 18, 2012 (SPS) - The Preparatory political conferences for the elections of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) started today morning in the 11 constituencies in the refugee camps, regions of the People’s Liberation Army and liberated territories.

The conferences initiated with standing a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs, listening to the Saharawi anthem and speeches of heads of the conferences.

In their opening speeches, heads of the conferences pointed to the national and regional circumstances, before reviewing the documents presented by the preparatory committee like assessment of the experience and role of the Saharawi National Council, presidential decree regulating the conferences and election process as well as drugs and terrorism phenomenon.

The opening day marked by interventions by the candidates and the formation of an election committee, to start its work tomorrow.

According to the preparatory committee, 158 candidates are competing for 52 seats in 11 constituencies. (SPS)
