36th Anniversary of SADR Declaration: Algerian president reiterates Algeria’s commitment to the UN decolonization doctrine of decolonization

Algiers, Feb 27, 2012 (SPS) - The Algerian President, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has sent a congratulatory message to his Sahrawi counterpart, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic proclamation, reiterating the commitment of Algeria to the rigorous application of the UN doctrine of decolonization.

“I would like, as you celebrate the thirty-sixth anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), to extend to you and to the brotherly Saharawi people my warm congratulations and to express my sincere wishes to the leadership of the Polisario Front for the success on the path of reflecting the legitimate aspiration of the people of Western Sahara to freedom and to exercise their right to self-determination,” wrote the President Bouteflika.

“The commemoration of the 36th Anniversary of SADR, which being celebrated after the successful holding of the Thirteenth Congress of the Polisario Front and what resulted from it, gives the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of Algeria to the rigorous application of the UN doctrine of decolonization and its support to the international community efforts to upgrade a solution based on the self-determination of the Saharawi people,” added Mr. Bouteflika.

“I express my hope for the success of the informal meetings initiated by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General in order to resume the negotiations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Frente Polisario,” stated the letter.

The Algerian President confirmed in this regard that Algeria “will continue, as a neighboring country, to encourage the parties to continue the dialogue and intensified it in accordance with the respect for international legitimacy to reach a solution ensuring self-determination for the Saharawi people.” (SPS)
