Saharawi delegation takes part at People’s Summit of Brazil

Brazil, June 23, 2012 (SPS) - Saharawi delegation has participated at the works and workshops of People’s Summit that took place 20-22 June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in parallel to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), being held after 20 years of first Earth Summit in 1992 at the same city.
The Saharawi delegation included, Mr. Hamdi Abaiha, Ambassador in mission in Brazil and Mr. Karim Lagdef, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


The delegation attended the summit along with thousands of citizens and members of civil society organizations from around the world.


On the sidelines of the summit, the Saharawi delegation took part at several workshops on human rights, self-determination of peoples and international justice. It also met representatives of a number of the participating delegations.


It also organized an exhibition, which contributed by the Association of Families of Saharawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA), exploring the chronological history of the conflict of Western Sahara and daily violations of human rights practiced by Moroccan occupying regime in the occupied territories.


The exhibition marked by the screening of the documentary about Western Sahara “Sons of the Clouds, the Last Colony in Africa", produced by the Spanish International Actor, Mr. Javier Bardem.


It is expected that a Brazilian-Saharawi friendship group to be formed, including several political parties and civil society of Brazil.


The Group will work to defend the Saharawi cause and towards the recognition of the Saharawi state and publicize it. (SPS)
