SADR and Tanzania call upon AU, UN and the international community to take their responsibilities to find a peaceful resolution to conflict of Western Sahara sooner and not later.

Dar es Salaam, June 26, 2012 (SPS) –the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the United Republic of Tanzania, Monday, called upon, the AU, the UN and the international community, as a whole, to take their responsibilities in ensuring that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is found sooner and not later, In a joint communiqué issued at the end of the official visit by the President of the Republic Mohamed Abdelaziz to Tanzania.

With respect to the peace process in Western Sahara, Their Excellencies  President Mohamed Abdelaziz and President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete  noted, “with great concern, that the conflict of Western Sahara has remained unresolved for decades and the Saharawi people are yet to determine their destiny, hence, causing great suffering to the Saharawi people,”

 “They therefore jointly called upon the AU, the UN and the international community, as a whole, to take their responsibilities in ensuring that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is found sooner and not later,” reads the joint communiqué

The two Presidents expressed their satisfaction at the excellent historical and fraternal relations that have been maintained between the Governments and peoples of their two countries

They underscored “the need to further strengthen the existing relations between their two countries by exploring possible areas of cooperation that would be of mutual benefit to the peoples of the two countries.”

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania “reiterated its unflinching support for the right of self determination of the people of Western Sahara.”(SPS)
