Participants of Sao Paulo Forum criticize Morocco’s obstructions to UN work in conducting self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

Caracas (Venezuela), July 8, 2012 (SPS) - Participants of the 18th edition of Sao Paulo Forum, including movements and political parties, have criticized the obstructions of Moroccan state to the work and efforts of the UN aiming at conducting a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, in a communiqué concluded the Forum that took place current July 4-5-6 in Caracas, in the presence of Saharawi delegation and 110 delegates from 60 states.


The participants expressed support and solidarity with struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination and independence, condemning the Moroccan systematic violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
They demanded the release of all the Saharawi political prisoners, calling for the halt of plundering of Saharawi natural resources.


They therefore appealed to Latin American states and Caribbean Group to recognize the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.


A Saharawi delegation comprised of the Minister Delegate for Latin America, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, Minister of Social Affairs and Woman’s Promotion, Mr. Mahfuda Mohamed Rahal, Ambassador to Caracas, Mr. Mbeirik Ahmed.


The delegation held a number of meetings with some participants at the Forum. It also made an intervention in various workshops particularly those concerning decolonization and peace, promotion of woman, social movement and national sovereignty. (SPS)
