Algiers, July 29, 2012 (SPS) - The African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) officially called on Morocco to allow a fact-finding mission to visit the occupied territories of Western Sahara and to inquire about the situation of human rights, the Algerian National Committee for Support to Saharawi People (CNASPS) said Sunday in Algiers.

ACHPR hopes that a fact-finding mission could visit Sahrawi liberated territories and refugees camps, said CNASPS’s President following a meeting with a delegation of the African organization led by its president Catherine Dupe Atoki.

Lamari welcomed ACHPR’s position, similar to the CNASPS's regarding the right of Sahrawi people for self-determination.

“We are delighted to share the same point of view regarding Sahrawis’ right for self-determination. We discussed the issue of human rights violation in Sahrawi occupied territories and the actions and the initiatives that we have to pursue (…) to break the wall of silence imposed by the Moroccan colonial forces.”

Lamari said having officially requested for CNASPS’s membership into ACHPR as an observer member. (SPS)
