Zimbabwe backs struggle of Saharawi people for freedom and independence (Vice-President)

Harare, Sept 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Vice-President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Joyce Mujuru, has confirmed his country’s firm position to support the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people for liberation of Western Sahara from Moroccan occupation, during a reception hosted Friday on honor of the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Deich Mohamed Saleh, according to a statement of the Saharawi embassy in Harare.


Vice-President of Zimbabwean President emphasized on the firm position of her country in the side of the legitimate struggle waged by the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic for the liberation of its territory from Moroccan occupation, hailing the steadfastness and determination of the Saharawi people.


The Zimbabwean Official expressed regret for the continued suffering of the Sahrawi people both under Moroccan occupation and in the refugee camps, asking the international community to put pressure on the Moroccan government to respect the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.


She also denounced the constant violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan authorities in the occupied territories of the Saharawi Republic, urging the United Nations, through the MINURSO, to shoulder the responsibility of protecting the Saharawi citizens.


After the meeting, the Saharawi Ambassador recalled, in a statements to the press, to the excellent relations already existing between the Republic of Zimbabwe and SADR and enduring position of Zimbabwe with the just struggle of the Saharawi people for the liberation of their Territory and building their state.


“We still have close relations. Therefore, the position of Zimbabwe towards Saharawi people’s just struggle remains principled and does not change,” he underlined.


The Saharawi diplomat finally called on the international community and all peace-loving forces “to intensify the efforts to pressurize Moroccan Kingdom to show a serious political will that would give the way for our people to decide their destiny through a free, fair and transparent referendum.” (SPS)
