New York, Oct 9, 2012 (SPS) - Guatemala has expressed support to the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Special Envoy Christopher Ross to help the parties to the Western Sahara conflict, POLISARIO Front and Morocco, to find a just and lasting solution.
Addressing meeting of the UN Fourth Committee on Monday, First Secretary at Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the United Nations Mr. Gabriel Orellana ZABALZA expressed his country’s support to the UN efforts in Western Sahara.
Mr. Zabalza welcomed the progress made in the application and expansion of confidence-building measures, urging the parties to the conflict of Western Sahara to continue to show their political will.
“The solution to this question affected not only the population of the Western Sahara but also the entire Maghreb region,” underlined the Guatemalan diplomat. (SPS)
