President of Republic demands end of "arbitrary" detention of Saharawi political prisoners of Izik Gdeim

Bir Lahlou (liberated territories), October 25, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of Frente Polisario,Mohamed Abdelaziz Wednesday called on United Nations Secretary General  Ban Ki-moon to intervene "urgently" to put an end to Morocco's disregard for international law.

 

In his letter UN Secretary General, President of the Republic demanded immediate and unconditional release of the Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the prison of Salé 2 and all the others who are still languishing in Moroccan prisons.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz drew the attention of the UN Secretary General on the Morocco’s postponement to a military trial against Saharawi civilians, saying "it is change dangerous" .

 

"An unjust decision and contrary to the principles of international humanitarian law," said President Mohamed Abdelaziz

 

He called for UN urgent intervention to end this situation which undermines the Saharawi political prisoners and their families.

"The international community cannot remain indifferent to such provocative behavior of the Moroccan government which is putting civilians in unfair detention for more than two years in inhuman conditions," he warned.

 

Secretary General of the Frente Polisario reiterated the urgent need to UN mechanism for monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara.

 

  He finally urged the international community "to exert all necessary pressure and sanctions against the Moroccan government to abide by the international law. (SPS)
