Ross applauds role of Saharawi woman in struggle and work

Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Nov 4, 2012 (SPS) - The UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Ambassador Christopher Ross, applauded Sunday morning, during a meeting with Saharawi woman cadres, the leading role played by the Saharawi women in the struggle and work, proposing to Saharawi Woman Union to ask for the participation in POLISARO delegation that negotiate with Morocco.


At the meeting, Ross said that he have followed for years the work done by the Saharawi women.


He pointed out in this respect to the Saharawi activist Aminatou Haidar, which he “had the honour” he said to meet her during his visit to occupied El Aaiun, expressing great recognition for the Saharawi woman.


The UN Envoy voiced pain for the attacks on Aminatou Haidar and the Saharawi citizens, during his visit to occupied El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara.


Moreover, he confirmed that he seeks to continue the “hard work” in order to facilitate the direct negotiations between the parties, POLISARIO Front and Morocco, for reaching a durable and just solution ensuring right of self-determination for the people of Western Sahara.


In a session in the presence of the press, he announced that his talks with the Saharawi officials focusing on the assessment of 5 years of negotiations, as well as consequences of the recent regional developments in Mali and Sahel in pushing for a solution.


“At the end of the visit, I will submit a report to the UN Secretary General and Security Council late November, summarizes the assessment of my visit to the region,” said Mr. Ross. (SPS)
