Ambassador to Uganda briefs young Africans on situation in Western Sahara

Kampala, Dec 1, 2012 (SPS) - The Ambassador to Uganda Mr. Habib Mahfud Boukhreis briefed Saturday a group of young Africans participated at the African Committee meeting of International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), to be held in Kampala this week, during a panel discussion on the Arab spring, governance and democracy.


The panel discussion also attended by the Professor Nyanja Musoke, Lecturer at the University of Kampala Makerere and the political analyst Sammy Gwada Ogot.


The Saharawi diplomat gave a presentation about the conflict of Western Sahara and an update on the latest political development in the cause, especially the visit of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross to the region, and results of his meeting with the Security Council.


He, therefore, spoke about the grave human rights violations committed against the Saharawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, emphasizing the need to protect and monitor the human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara.


The African Committee meeting of International Union of Socialist Youth is attended by over 20 delegates representing youth parties from different African countries such as Egypt, Niger, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Togo, in addition to the Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO), which is a member of IUSY. (SPS)
