Rabat (Morocco), Dec 30, 2012 (SPS) - The continuation of the mission of the United Nations Secretary-General Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, with the full support of the UN has been one of 2012’s key events in the Sahrawi conflict.
This support was reasserted, on several occasions, to Ross by the UN and reiterated by its Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his visit to the region in October, following the decision announced in May by Morocco to withdraw its confidence, and few weeks after the release of a report denouncing the obstacles posed by Morocco to the UN Mission for the Organization of Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) in the occupies Sahrawi territories.
Observers from the Moroccan political life, particularly its diplomacy, noted the strengthening of Ross’ mission after the "rejection" of the decision made unilaterally by Morocco.
The Moroccan magazine "TelQuel" underlined that the "great return" of Ross to the kingdom was a "snub" to Morocco, while pointing out the "amateurism" of Rabat’s diplomacy. (SPS)
