Washington, DC, Feb. 21, 2013(SPS) the American- based humanitarian organization, Not Forgotten International, called upon the Government of the United States and the United Nations to take immediate measures against Moroccan criminal behavior after the military court of Rabat sentenced 25 Saharawi political prisoners to between 20years imprisonment and life sentences.
“The extreme severity of the sentences against these 25 Saharawi individuals serves to reconfirm a long history of criminal behavior, inhumane treatment, and brutal oppression of a people group that has exhibited an equally long history of peaceful resistance to their injustice,” said Executive Director, Janet Lenz in a statement.
Not Forgotten International called upon the United Nations Security Council and the Government of the United States of America to take immediate action condemning “this injustice”
The organization called for “instituting a human rights monitoring capacity within MINURSO for all Saharawi living within their homeland of Western Sahara” and move forward with plans “activate the UN's obligation to establish the conditions for a referendum of the people of Western Sahara to determine their own future as a nation,”
It also called for international intervene “to seek the reversal of the Moroccan military court's arbitrary rulings against all Saharawi political detainees” and to release “ all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.”(SPS)
