President Mohamed Abdelaziz calls on AU to complete the liberation of occupied Western Sahara

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has called on the African Union to act in favour of completing the liberation of the occupied parts of Western Sahara, in a speech delivered Saturday at the Summit of OAU-AU 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration, taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.


In the context of the discussion that followed 4 presentations on the theme of 50th Anniversary Summit “Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance”, Saharawi President emphasized the principles of self-determination, human rights, democracy and the respect of borders inherited from colonialism.


SADR President is accompanied by an important delegation composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Minister of Vocational Training, Public Function and Individuals Ms. Khira Bullahi, Secretary General of the Woman’s National Union Ms. Fatma Mehdi, Minister Delegate for Africa Mr. Hamdi Abbaiha, Advisor to the Presidency Mr. Abdati Breika, Ambassadot in Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU Mr. Laman Baali, and the Secretary General of the Jurists’ Union Mr. Abba Salek Heisan.


In the context of the celebrations marking the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), a number of African leaders ad heads of state, including the Saharawi deceased, Sidi Mohamed Bassiri, and the martyr El-Ouali Mustapha El-Sayed and human rights defender Ms. Aminatou Haidar will be honoured.


Official speeches by African and international figures will be delivered on the occasion.


Several Western leaders and politicians, led by French President François Hollande and U.S. Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry, will also attend these festivities.


The 21st Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union expected to officially kick off tomorrow.


It will address the issue of peace, security and development in Africa and will focus on the ways to combat AIDS and malaria patients, as well as support to the African Union mechanisms for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in the continent. (SPS)
