Windhoek (Namibia), June 16, 2013 (SPS) - The Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO) has sent a message of solidarity to the Saharawi Union of Saharawi Woman (UNMS) on the occasion of the 3 rd international conference of solidarity with the struggle of Saharawi women, being held in the occupied city of El Aaiun.

“Dear Sisters in the struggle for the total liberation and self determination of Western Sahara and its People, greetings from Namibia. It is with great sorrow that I could not make it due to circumstances beyond my control,” writes Cde Mildred Jantjies, from PAWO.

“My heart was burning to have firsthand information of the related situation in the occupied territories, nevertheless I trust that the present delegation’s observation will help all of us to take informed decisions on the way forward,” she added.

Wished success for the deliberations of the conference, Ms. Jantjies urged Mr. Barack Obama, President of the United States, find an amicable solution for Western Sahara issue, especially in seeing to it that the referendum is realized soon as a matter of urgency.

“Let me take this opportunity to wish our Sisters in the occupied territory all the strength amidst the gruesome conditions they are exposed to, the barbaric torture endured,” she underlined, confirming that the global women “are more determined than ever to see to it that the long overdue referendum is realized.”

PAWO is a women’s organization that was founded in 1962 in Tanzania, a year before the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). (SPS)
