International conference on Saharawi child’s rights kicked off in Saharawi refugee camps

Boujdour (refugee camps), June 17, 2013 (SPS) - The 2nd International Conference on the Saharawi Child’s Rights kicked off Monday in the Saharawi refugee camps marking the Day of the African Child, in the aim to aware about the suffering of Saharawi children.


The two-day conference is co-organized by the Algerian National Consultatuive Commission for Human Rights Promotion and Protection (CNCPPDH) and Saharawi human rights organizations.


It is attended by Algerian and Saharawi associations, in addition to some international organizations, including the UNICEF, UNHCR, UNESCO and Italian Council for Refugees.


The conference will focus the reality and rights of Saharawi child, as enshrined in the international conventions, such the right to education health and social welfare.


The organizers aim at spreading the culture of human rights, especially the rights of the Saharawi child to a decent living.


The conference will be culminated by recommendations and a communique to deepen cooperation between the various Algerian and Saharawi human rights bodies.


The 2-day conference will be marked by workshops under the theme “Protection of Saharawi Child from International Agreements Perspective” and “Suffering of Saharawi Child in the Occupied Territories”.


Several lectures by Algerian and Saharawi scholars on the risks of drugs and mines will be presented at the conference. Moreover, documentaries on the subject will be screened.


Garden games will be inaugurated in parallel with works of the conference.


The conference will be marked by the organization of training session on human development and a paramedical workshop on health insurance of children.


On the sidelines of the conference, CNCPPDH and the Saharawi Jurists Union will sign on protocols of cooperation. (SPS)
