El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 24, 2013 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation authorities proceeded to put out of sight of the MEPs delegation the Saharawi political prisoners languishing in Lekhal prison in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, according to a statement of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora.
“In an uncovered initiative did not convince the visitors, Moroccan occupation authorities proceeded to put out of the sight of European Parliament’s delegation, who visited the prison, the Saharawi political prisoners by transferring them to a special wing inside the prison,” said the statement.
Moroccan occupation authorities, added the statement, sent six of the prisoners to prison of the occupied city of Dakhla in the context of its circumvented plan, it, therefore, deported large number of Moroccan public right’s prisoners to jails inside Morocco, to relieve the overcrowding of Lekhal prison, which is full of guests.
It worth noting that the number of Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails has exceeded fifty, including of which Gdeim Izik detainees, who were subjected to an unfair military trial last February.
The European delegation arrived Sunday in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, in a two-day visit to assess the dire situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
