Special envoy of Saharawi president received by Tanzanian president

Dar es-Salam, June 24, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Federal Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, received Monday evening at the presidential palace in Dar es-Salam, capital of Tanzania, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Foreign Minister of SADR and personal envoy of the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.


Mr. Ould Salek delivered a letter to the President of Tanzania from his Saharawi counterpart.


Envoy of the Saharawi President informed his interlocutor about the latest developments of Saharawi cause, and the obstruction placed by Moroccan occupation before the implementation of UN resolutions and before international community efforts aimed at the decolonization of the last African colony, Western Sahara, in accordance with international legitimacy.


Head of Saharawi diplomacy emphasized that Morocco still escalates its policies of repression as well as its gross and systematic violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.


From his part, the President of Tanzania Mr. Kikwete reaffirmed his country’s solid and principled position with the side of Saharawi people in their just and legitimate struggle for self-determination and independence.


The meeting was attended from the Tanzanian side by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operations Mr. Bernard Membe and advisors of the President, whereas from the Saharawi side by Mr. Brahim Salem Bouseif, Ambassador of SADR in Tanzania.


It should be recalled that the Federal Republic of Tanzania was one of the first African countries to recognize the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic on 9 November 1978. It have been also establishing diplomatic relations with it at the ambassadorial level ever since.


The relations between the two countries consolidated with the two-day state visit paid by President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, to the Federal Republic of Tanzania in the period from 24 to 25 June 2012. (SPS)
