Abuja, Oct 30, 2013 (SPS) - The International Network for the Study of the effects of mines and walls in Western Sahara (REMMSO) has called from Abuja, capital of Nigeria, on the international community to join the international campaign against the Moroccan military wall, which separates Western Sahara’s territory and people.
Speaking during a seminar on the negative effects of Moroccan wall in Western Sahara organized on the sidelines of the African Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawis people, Ms. Laura Sorita, member of REMMSO, said that this wall "is the most egregious," adding that it is a shame that there is still such a wall in the 21st century.
Ms. Sorita called, on this occasion, for supporting the international campaign against the Moroccan wall, which will start in Rome in the aim to expose Moroccan occupation’s practices in Western Sahara.
Witz regard to the mines and Moroccan wall, the Coordinator of the British ONG "Action on Armed Violence (AOAV)" Mr. Ahmed Sid Ali, for his part, said that there are millions of mines in the Western Sahara, which cause thousands of deaths among the innocent Sahrawis and amputation of a lot of Saharawi men, women and children.
Recalled that the Moroccan wall of shame, which seperates many families, Mr. Sid Ali added that Western Sahara is among one of 10 countries contaminated with mines.
He, therefore, undelined that the Saharawis Republic (SADR) has established an organization for mines clearence and assisting its victims, adding that it is part of the Geneva Convention, even though it is not a member of the United Nations.
AOAV’s Coordinator requested the international community to contribute by all means necessary to cleanse the Western Sahara territory of mines and to assisst its victim. (SPS)
