Algiers, Nov 5, 2013 (SPS) - Secretary General of the Pan African Federation of African Union Associations and Clubs, Tanga Abdou Fulgence Kabouri, said Tuesday that Morocco is committing “grave violations” of human rights against the Sahrawis in the occupied territories, describing the situation prevailing in the occupied Western Sahara as “the unbearable.”
“Morocco is perpetuating serious violations of human rights against the Sahrawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. The situation there is alarming, and even unbearable,” Mr. Kabouri told APS in response to the continued repression against Saharawi demonstrators in the occupied Saharawi cities.
He, in this context, stressed the Moroccan colonial practices in Western Sahara “are not accepted by the international community, including all Africans.”
Condemning “vigorously” the repressive practices carried out by Morocco in Saharawi occupied territories, he noted that the Moroccan occupation authorities “systematically suppress” peaceful demonstrations of the Saharawis, who peacefully demand the implementation of international law and the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
Noting that the situation in the Saharawi occupied territories is “alarming and unacceptable”, he emphasized that the extension of MINURSO mandate to monitor human rights “has become an emergency.”
“Since its occupation of Western Sahara in 1975, Morocco has been violating the rights of Saharawis and plundering the natural resources of the country, by using special practices of colonial regimes ,” said Mr. Bakouri.
He further indicated that his country, Burkina Faso, will, in the course of next week, see the official installation of the Burkinabe Committee of support to the people of Western Sahara.
“This committee will be responsible for initiating information and awareness campaigns to support the just cause of the Saharawi people in their struggle for independence,” he added. (SPS)
