SFG protests Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara

Submitted on

Accra, Nov 7, 2013 (SPS) - The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) transmitted Monday a declaration of protest to Moroccan Embassy in Accra, capital of Ghana, over the colonial occupation of Western Sahara.

Over 200 Ghanaians, including trade unionists, politicians, journalists, parliamentarians and academics signed this declaration.

“It is our very strong conviction that the continued occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco has no basis in international law and is morally unacceptable,” it indicated.

Signatures on this document said that they “firmly uphold the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination,” demanding an “immediate end” to the blatant violations of Saharawi rights.

This one-month campaign was decided in April in an act marking the 40th anniversary of the Polisario Front. It has launched on September 21st to celebrate the 104th birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first president of independent Ghana.

Copies of this protest declaration were addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Chairperson of African Union Commission and Saharawi Republic Embassy in Ghana. (SPS)
